When I travel, I like having the comforts of home. A washer and dryer is the ultimate luxury for me, strange-- but so true.

I also like having a kitchen, living room, patio, and space to sprawl out in. I usually always choose vacation rentals over hotels.

When I was searching for spots to stay in Savannah, Georgia - I came across Luxury Living Savannah.

They had what I wanted.

We stayed in the Madison Square Suite-- it was centrally located and looked just like it was portrayed online. It was clean and comfortable.

This company had plenty of rentals to suit any need.

Last but definitely not least, Mabel Frances Cupcake Emporium. The name alone denotes some scientific form of deliciousness.

I went here three-- yes, one, two, three times during my visit to Savannah, each time bringing more people with me.

I would venture to say that the cupcakes are marvelous. The famous buttercream was so darn good. I was also lucky enough to dig my chompers in the red velvet and salted Carmel! Love!

If you like sweets-- you need a Mabel cupcake!

Huey's on the River Savannah Georgia

This may have been my favorite place in Savannah for dining. I didn't actually order since we had Mrs. Wilkes for lunch-- but I sampled everything.

The ambiance is casual and festive, which I like. No fancy schmancy here, just good food.

The gumbo was delicious and huge. The appetizer of barbecue shrimp was saucy and came with a side of cheese bread for dipping. Scallops and grits, yum. Even the corn bread was tasty.

If you are in Savannah, Huey's is a must.

Let me start by saying during our stay in Savannah, we happened to be situated RIGHT next door to Mrs. Wilkes. I had read that it was a local favorite for down home southern cuisine, but even still I didn't know if I was game for that type grubbing. Day after day our little apartment was filled with the tantalizing aromas coming from Wilkes next door. The fried goodness began to wear on us.

Day three-- we went!

I sent my husband to go wait in line while I waited upstairs for a text--- I mean that's part of the perks of marriage right?

After about an hour, the text came.

I ran down-- we waited about 20 more minutes, then we were ushered in.

The room was filled with people seated family style, food, and anticipation. Tables were packed, I mean jam packed, with food.

We passed around the food and dug in.

Bliss! Carb laden, hearty thick rich, coma inducing food! Ahhhh!

My favorite things were the fried chicken, stuffing, carrot salad and the best-- the meatloaf. Desserts were blackberry cobbler and home made banana pudding. Both were good, as I had a taste of each, but the pudding was my preference of the two.

Go early, go hungry, plan to nap later!

The perfect amount if cheese and sauce. You can fold it!!!

Basically I'm addicted to sushi. I require it at least once a week. This obsession had to be satisfied even while on vacation in Savannah Georgia.

I found a place called Wasabi. Since Wasabi is a restaurant near to my heart where I live, I figured I'd give this Wasabi a try. While it's not as fab as the Wasabi I love, it did the trick.

The prices where reasonable, there was a large sushi, sashimi selection, and they even had pho!

We ordered four rolls and a shumai. All were good. I would give a thumbs up for anyone needing a sushi fix in Savannah.

Alligator Soul Savannah Georgia

So we land in Savannah, it's getting later, it's raining, E's hungry-- so I tell him to find something. Mind you we have been traveling all day, I'm in jeans and sans makeup-- my hair looks like a semi tornado- but I agree to go somewhere as long as I don't have to figure out where.

That's when my lovely husband finds shrimp and grits on a menu. He shows it to me on his iPhone, I peripherally glance and lackadaisically nod- fine. He calls and gets a table for an hour later. This should have clued me in on something-- it's Monday and there's an hour wait...

As soon as we walk in I know I'm dressed wrong-- not just wrong- begger like...

I take up a chair in the waiting area, ooching and scooching to wrap my jacket around my "I walk the line" DWI t-shirt. Hell, I thought this was low country- doesn't that mean shrimp boils and crawfish? After a few minutes of shock, I remember who I am-- the one who doesn't give a shit, and I just own it. I don't like being caught of guard-- but hey, there's food to be had.


The food

Wonderful! A sophisticated southern menu by all means of the imagination. Offerings such as charcuterie and cheese platters, shrimp and grits, lamb racks and much more. I of course had to have the daily cheese tasting-- so wonderfully delicious paired with walnuts, grapes, strawberry compote, and a fresh chunk of honeycomb. At this point I was likely to forget my manners and match my attire, but my good rearing kicked in. E had the shrimp and grits-- stone ground and delicious. I ordered a salad for my main course, which in fact was overkill after the cheeses. I ate what I could--it was also superlative. It had small square grits cakes instead of croutons for goodness sakes, along with candied pistachios, cranberries, baby spinach and goat cheese. What the hell-- I'm not trying to look good in my bridesmaids dress anymore, forget it. I had to put the kibosh on any idea of dessert so I can't report on flavor, but I can tell you a peanut butter creme brûlée with macadamia caught my eye. What! I still had to look!

As for the service, it was impeccable in spite of my attire. I give a good grade for that. We had a waitress and a waiter in training, he was so eager to please and make suggestions that it made the whole experience way more enjoyable.

The cons: the bartender was, um, I don't know-- but I didn't like her. She dissuaded me from ordering food at the bar-- maybe my shirt?

We had to wait an extra 30 plus minutes after our hour reservation.

These things are worthy of minor demerits.

Really, if you are in Savannah go here for a nice upscale meal. The menu is well thought out, the staff is accommodating, and you will enjoy it!
